LPA-1 Operation

Over ten years ago a group of experienced Lead Inspectors came to RMD in need of a better XRF lead paint spectrum analyzer. With their input, RMD developed the easy to use LPA-1. Operating the LPA-1 in the field to complete a Lead Paint inspection involves 4 simple steps.

Press NEW UNIT key, to confirm New Unit, press the SET key

A job number will appear which is created from the date and military time at which the inspection began. For Example a Job Number 12-15-03-0945 (12/15/03 09:45) indicates that the inspection began on December 15, 2003 at 9:45am. Both the Analyzer and the Report Generation Software use this number to identify inspection jobs.

Press the SET key until the appropriate Abatement Level appears

Abatement Level can be set in increments of 0.1 mg/cm² to a maximum of 2.0 mg/cm². In Quick Mode, the Analyzer uses the abatement level to determine the measurement time required for a 95% confidence.

In TIME CORRECTED mode (SELECT MODE key), measure the Standard Sample (1.0mg/cm²) a minimum of 3 times. Avg. of 3 readings should equal 1.0 ± 0.3 (0.7-1.3) mg/cm²

Also, In TIME CORRECTED mode measure the blank side of the Standard Sample 3 times for a 0.0mg/cm² reference.

Go to QUICK MODE (SELECT MODE key) and complete all measurements according to the PCS document or what ever protocal you are working with.

Repeat Step 3 before ending the job. Step 3 should also be done every 4 hours within the same job number.
